China Gb Standards Testing Cost

Scope and evidence must be confirmed before any paid tests or filings.

Quick answer: no defensible universal GB laboratory testing price exists.

A GB standards testing budget is a scope-dependent calculation, not a single government tariff. First identify the product, the exact edition of each applicable standard and whether a separate China Compulsory Certification (CCC) route applies.

Do not confuse the price of obtaining a standards document, a private laboratory report and an official certification process. A GB/T standard is generally recommended, whereas GB denotes mandatory national standards; whether testing, certification or a particular report is required depends on the product and applicable rules.

Decide the route before asking for a price

Check the current standard number, effective date and status in the SAMR catalogue. Match the product's intended use, power source, components and model variants to the actual test clauses. Some sectors have additional specialist rules; the national standards catalogue does not cover every sector.

Check the current CNCA CCC catalogue and implementation rules separately. A product being subject to a GB requirement does not by itself prove it needs CCC, and an ordinary GB lab quote is not an all-in CCC quote. For a difficult classification, obtain a written route assessment before ordering tests.

Five cost buckets to separate

Use a working budget: total = quoted testing + applicable certification/inspection charges + samples and logistics + agreed coordination/translation + a separately identified contingency. Count each charge only if it applies; do not add CCC fees to a testing-only project.

Budget componentHow to price or verify it
01Laboratory work: identified standard clauses, number of samples, methods, destructive cycles, reports and retests; priced by laboratory quotation, not a universal GB rate.
02Scope and variants: additional models, materials, ratings, configurations or new edition of a standard may increase the test matrix; obtain written rules for family grouping.
03Samples and shipping: sample manufacture, packaging, freight, customs handling and possible destruction; confirm quantity, destination and return policy.
04CCC-specific administration and inspection: application, approval, factory checks, surveillance and marking where the correct route requires them; check the chosen certification body's published schedule.
05Optional professional support: classification work, document translation, local coordination and corrective-action management; price independently and avoid duplicate charges.

Verified published amounts — only where CCC/CQC applies

CQC's compulsory product certification fee notice published on 9 June 2026 lists the following charges. These are selected items from that body's schedule, not a national price list for all GB tests; laboratory charges follow laboratory schedules.

CQC itemPublished amount
Application per certification unitCNY 500 / unit
Translation surcharge per certification unit when application materials are not in ChineseCNY 1,000 / unit (conditional)
Approval and registration per certification unitCNY 800 / unit
Factory inspection per person-dayCNY 2,500 / person-day
Annual certificate charge per certificateCNY 100 / certificate / year
Paper certificate per setCNY 100 / set

CQC says inspection person-days depend on the plan; overseas CCC activities are charged by agreement, inspectors' return travel is borne by the applicant, and the final charge follows its notice or contract. Ask whether VAT/taxes, shipping, travel, translation, surveillance and retests are included. Confirm the latest notice before payment.

Three budgeting situations

These are route-dependent examples, not price estimates. Request different quotations for each; no monetary total is reliable without the product's test matrix and route.

CaseInclude in budget
01Testing only: a specified GB/GB/T clause set, one frozen model, no confirmed CCC requirement. Budget laboratory, samples, freight and agreed reporting; do not assume CCC charges.
02Multiple variants: one family with changes in materials, voltage or components. Ask for one shared test plan plus incremental tests by variant; model grouping must be accepted before counting savings.
03CCC route confirmed: include appropriate CQC/other certification-body charges, laboratory test fees, applicable factory inspection and continuing surveillance, plus logistics. The quoted unit count and site count are decisive.

Minimum data package for a comparable quote

Send the same version-controlled information to each provider and insist that the quote lists its assumptions.

  • Product identity, category, end use and target China sales channel.
  • Model list and differences in ratings, components, materials and factories.
  • Photos, drawings, specifications, bill of materials and manuals available.
  • Proposed GB/GB/T codes and editions, or a request to identify them explicitly.
  • CCC applicability determination and intended certificate holder, if relevant.
  • Existing test reports, dates, laboratories and full methods; no automatic acceptance assumed.
  • Sample quantities, shipment origin, preferred schedule and needed report language.

Avoidable cost triggers and controls

Protect a baseline test matrix before sample submission. A lower headline fee may cost more if exclusions and retest rules are unclear.

  • Changed critical component after sampling → ask the lab which clauses and documents must be repeated.
  • Wrong edition or missing required clause → verify effective dates and obtain a clause-by-clause quotation.
  • Unaccepted model-family grouping → request the decision in writing before relying on one sample set.
  • Sample failure or damage → agree retest prices, replacement samples and report amendments in advance.
  • Unclear inspection location or non-Chinese documents → separate travel and translation as conditional line items.

When is a quotation defensible?

A reliable quote identifies standards and editions, methods/clauses, models and samples, laboratory and recognition scope, certification route (if any), line-item fees, exclusions, retest rules, validity and assumptions. Compare like-for-like and separate one-time from recurring costs.

If classification, standard edition, factory location or sample grouping remains unresolved, request a priced preliminary scope assessment and a conditional budget range rather than a guaranteed fixed total. No published CQC fee can substitute for a laboratory test quotation.

For classification strategy see the GB testing consultant page; for sample work and reports see GB testing services; for a mandatory certification project see CCC certification services; for other China market requirements see the country compliance overview.

Official sources for validating the budget

Check the live notices, the relevant product rules and the chosen provider's current quotation; official published charges can change.

GB standards testing cost: five questions

Is there a standard nationwide price for GB testing?

No. Test costs depend on the applicable product-specific clauses, samples, methods and laboratory quotation. Published CCC charges are separate and apply only to the relevant certification route.

Can I use the CQC application fee to calculate my total?

No. The CNY 500 per certification unit application line in CQC's 9 June 2026 notice excludes the separately charged laboratory work and other conditional items. It is not a general GB testing fee.

Will one tested model cover every variant?

Not automatically. Provide a variant matrix and ask the laboratory and, for CCC, the competent certification body to accept the grouping and any reduced test scope in writing.

Do CE, IEC or other existing reports eliminate Chinese testing?

Do not budget on that assumption. They can help define a gap analysis; acceptance or reduced work must be confirmed for the exact standard and route by the relevant provider or authority.

When should I refuse a fixed-price quote?

When it omits the standards and editions, test clauses, variants, samples, retest exclusions or the CCC decision. Seek a conditional scope and itemised quote first.
